In particular the Kiel Institute prepares surveys on current issues of currency and monetary policies in the Euro Area in order to brace the European Parliament for regular discussions with the European Central Bank (EZB). Project Global supply chains, environmental regulation and green innovation The project analyses how participation in global supply chains hampers or facilitates the investment in state-of-the-art production equipment or production processes that are more environmentally efficient and related to this investigates the effectiveness of incentives such as financial grants, energy taxes, or carbon trading schemes at changing carbon emissions. These issues are investigated using firm level data for Germany and China. Project Mercator Dialogue on Asylum and Migration (MEDAM) MEDAM is a research and consultation project that aims to identify and close the gaps in existing research and to develop research-based solutions for European asylum and immigration policies. Starting from an economic perspective, MEDAM looks at the bigger picture seeking better outcomes for all stakeholders. Project Joint Economic Forecast Embedded in a comprehensive outlook for the world economy, the Joint Economic Forecast („Gemeinschaftsdiagnose“, GD) prepares in-debth analyses and forecasts for the German economy (detailed 2-year horizon and 5-year medium term projections including potential output estimations). These forecasts are input for the projections of the Federal Government in Germany. The forecasting exercise is carried out jointly by a group of economic research institutes. Based on the diagnostic results and taking into account important issues in the public debate on economic issues the institutes also come up with policy recommendations. Project Dealing with change in SIDS: societal action and political reaction in sea level change adaptation in Small Island Developing States The general goal is to understand the best adaptation to sea level rising in small island developing states. Based on this, possibilities for improvement of the European Commission's current estimation approach are elaborated and evaluated. Project BioNex – The future of the biomass nexus Through the National Policy Strategy Bioeconomy, the German government pursues the transformation to a bio-based economy, in which fossil resources are replaced with biomass. The challenge for this transformation is the simultaneous achievement of sustainable use of natural resources, global food security and economic growth. Project ViWA - Virtual Water Values The ViWA project is a water research network to support the implementation of the UN Sustainable Development Goals. Project Populism and Economic Upheavals since 1870: A Quantitative Analysis Populism is one of the main challenges of our time. However, the phenomenon has not been sufficiently researched so far, especially in economics. In particular, there is a lack of sustainable prevention strategies.
